The Philippines: Isabela prosecutor shot dead

25/06/21

The deputy prosecutor of Ilagan, Isabela was killed in a gun attack in Conner, Apayao on Wednesday.

Victor Begtang Jr. was repairing his vehicle in a residential compound in Barangay Malama when an unidentified man opened fire at around 2:30 p.m., Lt. Carolyn Domyong, Conner police chief, said.

Witnesses said the gunman escaped on a motorcycle driven by his cohort who waited for him along the highway.

Begtang suffered four gunshot wounds in various parts of the body. He died while being treated at the Conner District Hospital.

Probers have yet to determine the motive for the killing.

The Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP)-North Luzon chapter condemned the killing of Begtang, whom they described as a dedicated prosecutor in the province.

The IBP called on the police to immediately solve the case

Thanks. L4L and the Law Soc using the FLAG fake news really gets my goat! Anyway, it is what it is. we know them for wat they are. BTW tomorrow is Bels’ birthday. She will be chuffed to get a greeting from you. She will take the day off. We were planning a nice day out and a good meal at a very fine Greek restaurant on the waterfront in “downtown Woy Woy”…but the Covid numbers have started to go up in “Greater sydney”-and there is a lock down in the Central coast stretching up to the Blue Mts. So it will be a difficujlt day to get out and about-a few decent Thai takeaways and a local fish and chippery will probably be open…anywy we will play it by ear. The Covid scare is because it involves one of the variamts-I believe the same as spreading in the UK. There are about 150 cases in Sydney-none reported up here yet. Our death total in Oz is somewhere between 1000 and 1500-pretty amazing. But the vax rollout has been shockingly slow and difficult to get into and Pfizer remains pretty much off limits as they got in very low numbers of it. What they did get was Astra Z-and now they will not give it to the under 60s! Total fuck up. ________________________________
