The Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Armed Forces in the Philippines (AFP) in Bicol strongly condemned the communist rebels following the bombing incidents in Masbate and Albay that killed a college varsity football player and injured an Ombudsman lawyer here.

BGen. Jonnel Estomo, Bicol police director, and Maj. Gen. Henry A. Robinson Jr., commanding general of the Army’s 9th Infantry Division (ID), condemned the latest act of terrorism perpetuated by the New People’s Army (NPA).

Far Eastern University varsity football player Keith Absalon, 21, and his cousin Nolven Tepalit Absalon, 34, an employee of Masbate Electric Cooperative (Maselco) were killed when a landmine was detonated in Barangay Anas, Masbate City on Sunday morning.

In Albay, four civilians were wounded on Sunday when a car was hit by an improvised explosive device (IED) that exploded along the road in an upland village of Homapon, Legazpi City.

Lawyer Merda Paterson, a retired Ombudsman investigator; Romeo Mariscotes, 38; Visitacion Mariscotes, 40; and an 11-year-old girl were injured in the explosion.

The bombing incident occurred eight hours after a Globe cell site, in Barangay Homapon, was set on fire purportedly by the same rebel group that planted the IED along the road.
