Troubled Nairobi lawyer Miguna Miguna was deported to Canada on grounds of renouncing his Kenyan citizenship and it has now emerged that police want to question his lawyers over his alleged missing passport.
According to the Standard, officers at the Directorate of Criminal Investigation headquarters have summoned lawyers Nelson Havi, Cliff Ombeta and Kamanda Mucheke in regard to an affidavit filed in court that Miguna’s Canadian passport was missing.
This is because the lawyer is reported to have used the lost passport to travel to Toronto.
Havi, however, stated that the lawyers will not discuss the matter as it is still in court.
“We have told them we will not discuss an issue in court. Let them come to court and argue there,” he remarked.
This comes just a few days after reports emerged that some of Miguna’s lawyers were receiving bribes from the Jubilee regime.
Speaking exclusively to Kenyans.co.ke, Havi who has been representing the self-proclaimed NRM general in his deportation case dismissed claims that he had been bribed by the ruling party.
“I have not been approached by anyone from Jubilee and I categorically state that I have not received any bribe,” he affirmed.
Last week, Miguna took to his social media alleging that HomaBay Town MP Peter Kaluma was being used by Jubilee to bribe his advocates.

Ion Cretu, one of the lawyers defending Veaceslav Platon has been put on the wanted list. The decision was made by the Criuleni District Court, which in March 2018, issued an arrest warrant into the name of the defender. Cretu pleads not guilty and claims to be persecuted for his activity.
Lawyer Ion Cretu is accused of influence peddling. On March 18, 2014, he was detained with 15700 euros on him, money he had received from a Turkish citizen. In exchange for money, Cretu promised to arrange the release of a Bulgarian citizen, arrested for trafficking a minor for sexual exploitation.
Lawyer Eduard Rudenco told CrimeMoldova that the decision to apply the measure of pre-trial detention was taken at the request of the prosecutors on the grounds that he failed to appear at the hearing. “There were 46 court hearings in this case, and Ion Cretu missed only one, the court being informed that he had been hospitalized. Please take account of the fact that 21 of the court hearings had been postponed because of the accuser, who missed them without any reasons,” Rudenco said.
Being Platon’s lawyer, Ion Cretu was in charge of defending the interests of the businessman against the leadership of Penitentiary No. 13. The defender won a trial, after which the prison administration was forced to allow a TV set in Platon’s cell.

Justice Ali Hameed has to sleep in jail with an oxygen mask on every night, his lawyer has said.
During a Criminal Court hearing on Tuesday, lawyer Mahfooz Saeed said that the correctional service is aware of his condition in jail, to which the presiding judge Adam Arif replied that the court also knows about it.
The lawyer noted that Justice Hameed is now having to travel from the island prison to the court in Male’ for the daily hearings, which is deteriorating his health, adding that Hameed had to be treated by the prison doctor on Tuesday.
Justice Hameed, Chief justice Abdulla Saeed, and former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom were present at Tuesday’s hearing on obstruction charges. While Justice Saeed and former President Maumoon were questioned, due to the late hours, the hearing concluded after postponing Justice Hameed’s questioning to another date. The Moscow Chamber of Attorneys has disbarred prominent lawyer Mark Feigin for allegedly unethical behavior.
The lawyer said he considers the April 24 decision to be politically motivated and plans to appeal against it.
The decision comes after lawyer Stalina Gurevich demanded that Feigin be deprived of his status for violating the norms of the lawyers’ code of ethics by using obscene vocabulary on social media against his colleagues and their clients.
Gurevich called allegations that the decision was politically-related “a lie.”
Feigin has defended the punk protest band Pussy Riot and Nadia Savchenko, the Ukrainian airwoman who spent nearly two years in Russian captivity, in politically sensitive cases.
He is also defending Ukrainian journalist Roman Sushchenko, who is on trial in Moscow on espionage charges.
