This year, for the 8th celebration of the Day of the Endangered Lawyer, we hereby invite you and your organization to take part once again! In 2017, the Day of the Endangered Lawyer was a huge success. It was celebrated or given attention to in 27 cities in nearly all continents of the world: Europe, North and South-America, Asia and Australia.
In 2018, the focus will be on the very difficult situation that lawyers in Egypt are in. Attached you find various reports, made by ELDH for January 2017 (they will be updated) and by Amnesty International from last summer. During the last few years, lawyers in Egypt have been increasingly persecuted. They have been arrested, maltreated, jailed, or simply disappeared. In the attached reports you will find more information.
We request all lawyers organizations and bar associations who have supported us during the last couple of years to support this choice for Egypt. Also, several new organizations have contacted us and are willing to take part in the Day of the Endangered Lawyer. Please inform us a.s.a.p. what manifestation or action will be done in your city or country and who will be its coordinator, so we can be in touch.
